  ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo

Opening Statement...
"Well, It was another exciting game here, and kind of more of the same stuff. Get down, struggle shooting the ball. I think we missed our first 13 3s in the game, but I still felt good offensively at the half. We got the ball inside, but Ty missed a lot of easy ones. We also missed some open shots from the 3. I don't think defensively we were near as good as we needed to be for the whole game, until the last few minutes. Luckily, our offense showed up in the second half, in a lot of different areas. Kemp was big, obviously, with 30 points in the game. Akeem got going, shooting the ball from the perimeter. Robert did a nice job in the last seven minutes of the game; he got us some crucial offensive rebound baskets. Miguel struggled, but made some big buckets for us in the second half. Fifty-nine points in the second half is a lot of points in a conference game."

On Miguel Paul's playing time...
"He can get going, and that's what he does. We've got a lot of different guys at that position and they've got to understand that every night's not their night. Shamarr made some big shots for us in the night before against Central Florida. Tonight it was Akeem. Corvonn has his moments on the defensive end of the floor, and made a nice shot tonight for us; and Paris made some. It's going to be somebody different, and that's what you need to have. I thought that with Miguel not shooting the ball as well as he's capable of, we had some other guys step up. Maurice was awfully aggressive in the second half; he made some big buckets for us. He was terrific offensively.

"Only five turnovers, and 21 assists--that's outstanding. I'll take that every night."

On coming back from behind...
"We've done it, a lot. They don't panic. We've done it before, and I think they'd rather be up, but they don't go away, they don't quit defending, they don't quit trying to execute. They didn't panic when the shots weren't going in. I think they have some confidence that eventually, offensively we will get going, and I've got a lot of confidence in our 3-point shooters. I still think we can make them and that's what we have to do.

"I thought Houston played well. They played better--they didn't play particularly well against Southern Miss on the road. Coach Dickey is a good coach. He's been around a long time, and I thought he had them ready to play tonight. "

  Houston Head Coach James Dickey

Opening Statement...
"Well they just killed us the second half offensively. Kemp was terrific, Paul was terrific, and Richmond had 14 points. When you give up 59 points you're not going to beat anybody. We certainly have to give them a lot of credit. I thought that they were terrific. We knew coming in that they are a great offensive basketball team. We didn't defend well enough. Rebounds were a little bit fleeting because we gave up 16 offensive rebounds. They got 19 points off that, and they got 19 points off of 13 turnovers. They're too good to try and help."

On the atmosphere in Minges...
"They've got a good crowd here. I respect the fans; I respect Jeff. But those 3-pointers are what got them going. The crowd didn't score any points, but they're a good crowd. I have a lot of respect for East Carolina. Ruffin is a good friend of mine. I've watched this program for years, and I respect the people. The fans, they've got a lot of class. Their student body was good, and certainly I don't mean to take away-- that's inspiring to their players, but I think the players are the ones that got them going."

On performance and plays in the game...
"Well we were trying to attack. I thought that we got a little bit tentative, but they had a lot to do with it. I thought they were very good in the second half offensively, but we had some opportunities. We missed some timely free throws. We had a couple of plays that I thought were huge in the game. TaShawn got a wide-open layup down here underneath and missed it. And then when the game was tied, Miguel missed a free throw, and we don't get the rebound; it goes out of bounds. Subsequently, they came in and hit a 3 right after that. The next time down they hit another 3, and I thought that was a big series during the game. After that they really did a good job of finding their people, and making free throws. I thought those were two big plays and we had lost momentum."

  Senior Forward Maurice Kemp

On tonight's performance...
"I felt pretty good in warm ups. I got a lot of shots up throughout this whole break, so I feel like it's starting to pay off. During Christmas break is when you get the most work in and it's helping. I just wanted to help the team out any way I could whether it's defensively or offensively - whatever my teammates needed from me."

On the second half being so dominant and what happened at halftime...
"It helps when you've got the microwave [referring to Akeem Richmond]. He randomly comes in cooking and he gets to a point where he can't miss. We emphasize getting stops in the second half that's all we talked about at halftime, so I think we did a better job defensively and that helped us a lot."

  Junior Guard Akeem Richmond

On catching fire when needed and developing a key role...
"I just came in and shot the ball with a lot of confidence. I got a ton of shots up before the game and I think that helped out a lot. We did an excellent job of sharing the basketball so I've got to give credit to my teammates as well."

On what it's like when he gets hot shooting the 3s...
"It's an incredible feeling; it's all about knowing the time to score."
