  ECU QUOTES
  ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo

Opening Statement...
"It's disappointing, but Memphis is terrific. Our kids battled hard; we competed until the end. We had to work defensively, and it seemed a little easier for them. We had opportunities, and I thought we missed a couple. Akeem [Richmond] missed a couple of open looks, and I think that might have been the difference in getting the energy going in the place.

On Joe Jackson...
"Joe Jackson is a terrific player. I marvel at him and where he came from. He was a top 10, top 15 player in the country coming out of high school, and he really struggled for two years at Memphis. I told our guys about listening to the noise on the outside, and this year he's put that aside and has focused on being the best player he can be. He just dominated the game. He's so efficient. So he was great tonight, and to me he was the reason they won the game. "

On playing without Robert Sampson...
"What happens then is we have to move [Maurice] Kemp to [power forward] and we play smaller at [small forward]. We had a hard time scoring, so I had to put my better offensive players out there, which were also our smaller guys. I thought we did some good things in the face of not having a full allotment of guys in a game that really needed a full allotment of guys. It was hot in there too, but we just couldn't quite get over the hump when we needed to."

On D.J. Stephens' shot blocking ability
"We had a couple of plays late in the game where we got the ball exactly where we wanted, and he was just blocking them. I've been around a lot of guys that can jump, but wow. He's a special shot blocker. He erased two layups we had. We get it right where we want it to go and he just pogo-sticked up there and just blocked them."

  Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner

Opening statement...
"First and foremost, I want to say that was a good basketball game and that's a good basketball team that just played. East Carolina is really good. They are very well coached and they've got good players. They're a good basketball team, and it's not an easy win. That's a good team, so we were fortunate to get the `W' and any time you get aroad win it's extra special. But like I said that's a really well coached team, they've got good players, and they run good stuff, so you've got to give them credit. It's a good win for us."

On his calm appearance...
"I'm not always calm, I try to do the best I can. One of my pet peeves is when we don't come up with 50/50 balls. And we didn't have enough in the first half and East Carolina was beating us in 50/50 balls. Every time we miss a 50/50 ball it's a day off my life. "

On Memphis' second half performance...
"I thought the second half was just a fun basketball game for both teams. It's a high level game, and the crowd here was great. They've got a great home court atmosphere. Our guys hit the shots, and we made some free throws down the stretch when they started fouling. But it was a one-possession game; basketball is just crazy how it is. Sometimes people just think we're back in the 90's where you have a couple of dominant teams. But everyone's good. East Carolina is really good! The league is good; we just don't get the respect and credit for it. I'm a big believer that everyone is good, and the margin between teams is no longer. Everyone's good, everyone's got good players, and everyone's got good coaches."
