| ECU QUOTES
ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"Well it was an offensive game and I'm really proud of our group to find a way to win a tough game. Tulane played well. They shot it really well, they spread us out, beat us off the bounds, hurt us on the glass; but offensively it looked like it would be a game we would have to out score them. Luckily, we had a couple more points in the end than they did.
"Maurice Kemp was outstanding again offensively. Akeem continued to shoot the ball well and Paris did well, five 3s in a game is big. Miguel finally scored the ball for us in the second half, 13 big ones. It was a big win for our group. It gets us a bye in the tournament and it puts us at eight Conference USA wins, which ties the most that we've had in school history. We have a chance here on Saturday to get to nine. I've challenged the kids here that this is a chance to leave their legacy on the program here. They've put themselves in a position to be playing these kinds of games in March. I didn't know how they'd respond in this one; since we didn't haven't had a lot of guys in that situation. The defensive side was not pretty, but offensively we were really sharp with 24 assists and eight turnovers, I'll take that every night."
On defending Tulane...
"They're hard to guard when they're playing four guards, and then they've got a center who's like a small forward who can dribble it, pass it, has the little `up and under' moves, and who's got size. They're hard to defend because they're unique, and you don't see that too often. They kind of forced us to play small. Ty was in foul trouble, Robert had fouls in the game, and had a hard time guarding Davis. But he's a good player."
Tulane Head Coach Ed Conroy
"Well my first thought was that was just one heck of a college basketball game. I thought ECU brought out the best in us and I thought we brought out the best in them. I think both teams were playing hard on the defensive end but I thought the offense was good at a really high level. Credit goes to those young men that competed tonight. Obviously a key stretch in the game was at the end, Kemp got loose for a couple shots off of the ball screen but we had to protect against Paul getting in the paint. Coach Lebo does a great job of getting those guys in the right position to make shots. We actually talked a little bit about that, I thought he might do what he did at the end. They did and that was a huge play."
Senior Forward Maurice Kemp
On how he felt during the game...
"I did feel pretty good tonight, I got a lot of shots up in the past few days and my jumper felt pretty good and I was really comfortable out there. Miguel did a good job of getting me the ball and that got me a lot of easy buckets."
On making plays down the stretch...
"We have a lot of veterans on the team, we've been through a lot of tough battles this year and last year and I think that experience helps us down the stretch in close games. We value every possession and I think that's something we done throughout the year."
On earning a first-round bye in the C-USA tournament...
"It's huge. It's something we knew we had a shot at coming into this game and Coach Lebo stressed how big of a game this was. Every conference game is big but this one was huge for us. I'm proud of every one of my teammates and my coaches."
Junior Guard Akeem Richmond
On setting the ECU record for 3s in a season...
"It's a big time accomplishment, I'm excited. It lets me know that my hard work has paid off, but I'm just excited we got the win. I'd rather have the win."
On play at home after being on the road for two weeks...
"It seems like forever since we played in front of our home crowd so I was ecstatic to get back inside of Minges; I almost forgot how it felt. I just want to thank all the fans and everyone that supported us, we really appreciate that."
On the chance to break the school record for most C-USA wins...
"That's huge, especially on senior night. We came into this year trying to change the impression of ECU basketball, trying to turn things around here. I think Coach Lebo and his staff are definitely doing that."
