Complete Box Score in PDF Format LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Alex McLean scored 17 points, including 13 in the second half, to give Liberty a 64-56 come-from-behind win over East Carolina on Saturday night, snapping the Pirates three-game winning streak. McLean's lay-up with 12:16 remaining put the Flames (4-1) ahead 36-35 to stay. The score was part of a 10-point run that put Liberty up by nine with 10:05 left. The Pirates (4-2) got to within three, 46-43, on a pair of free throws by Taylor Gagnon with 6:59 remaining, but was unable to retake the lead. A layup by junior Darrell Jenkins cut Liberty's lead to 60-56 with 1:31 remaining, but it was the last time East Carolina would score. Senior Larry Blair scored 15 points and B.J. Jenkins had 12 for Liberty. East Carolina rocketed out to a 17-3 lead in the first eight minutes, capped by a lay up from Jeremy Ingram. Unfortunatley for ECU, it would be the its final field goal for the next eight minutes as Liberty pulled within three, 20-17. Ingram ended the Pirates' drought with a jumper with 3:21 left in the first half. The Pirates held a 26-21 lead at the half. The Pirates limited Liberty to 7-of-31 shooting from the field in the first half, but struggled themselves making just 10-of-26 (38.5%) shots prior to intermission and committed 11 turnovers. But in the second, Liberty shot 61.5 percent from the field and made 10-of-14 free throws to spur their comeback. Though ECU got to the free throw line more often than its opponent after halftime, it wasn't able to capitalize as it made just 6-of-17 free throws in the second half and connected on a woeful 37.0 percent of its free throws for the game (10-of-27). Senior Courtney Captain led East Carolina with 16 points, while junior Jenkins added 13 points.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday, December 5 against UNC Wilmington. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Trask Coliseum on the UNC Wilmington campus and will be televised throughout eastern North Carolina on WITN-TV.
