East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"Congratulations to Charlotte. I thought they played awfully well coming off a week's rest and were well prepared. Offensively we struggled. We played pretty well defensively in the first half, but we had some breakdowns in the second half. We got tired and fatigued. Robert Sampson could hardly breathe in the last couple minutes. He wanted to come out and I said you have to stay in and finish it out.
"They hurt us on the glass especially in the second half. We had a heck of a run at the end. A couple turnovers there made it real interesting. Shamarr Bowden played very well coming in off the bench in the second half making some shots. We've got to be able to knock down some consistent shots from the perimeter to open up some things for Morrow, but we made a conscious effort to give him the ball."
On Morrow's performance
"Darrius Morrow struggled immensely. We are going to have a hard time winning against anybody if he had nights like this. We still had a chance to win even with him going 0-for-8 and having five turnovers in 36 minutes. He was out of whack tonight. I haven't seen him play like that in a long time."
On Charlotte's interior defense
"They were very physical with Morrow. They doubled him a little bit. They mixed in how they defended him. They were quick and athletic, strong. He's a little better sometimes against these bigger guys. Guys his size and strength but we got him the ball a lot of different times it just wasn't effective when we got him it. Robert Sampson is having a hard time shooting it with his thumb being taped up and having an injured thumb is really affecting him but his effort was absolutely insane especially in the second half he was everywhere."
Charlotte Head Coach Alan Major
"First off, its good to get a win on the road. These guys don't lose here often. This was a good step for us; hats off to East Carolina, they played extremely hard. They taught us a lesson that you have to keep playing. With a young team like ours we got excited there a little bit, but it's a good lesson that you have to play for 40 minutes because they made an incredible run and fortunately we were able to go and finish it off."
On Charlotte's ability to contain Morrow
"We tried to keep him off balance. Any good scorer likes to find his spots on the floor where he's comfortable. You have to guard guys like that as a team. I don't think you can really put that on one individual and say okay, you got him you stop him. I think you have to do it as a group and guys did a good job trying to stay behind him and make him shoot over them and some other perimeter guys got in there and dig, knocking out of his hands and making him pick it up. We just tried to keep him off balance. He had a few point blank ones that easily could of gone in.
On Jamar Briscoe's second half
"That's what he can do. He is a guy who is wired to score and he's got a nose for putting the ball in the basket. He picked up a couple fouls in the first half that kind of took him out of the game for a little bit, but he came back. That's the sign of a mature kid to be honest. I am very proud of him."
