GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina used a 19-0 second half run, which included four 3-pointers, to defeat Limestone College 69-43 on Saturday night inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
ECU (7-1) doubled up the Saints after halftime - 36-18 - to earn its fourth consecutive victory and send the Saints (2-3) to their straight defeat.
Four Pirates scored in double-figures led by James Legan with 14 points. The senior made 4-of-8 shot behind the arc and went 5-for-10 from the field.
Freshman Darrius Morrow, who made his first career start tonight, totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Senior Sam Hinnant and sophomore Jamar Abrams each added 11 points.
Freshman Chris Turner tied a career-high with nine points off the bench.
Freshman Michael Barrett led Limestone with 11 points, while sophomore Bobby Grier and freshman Stewart Clark chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
ECU jumped out early and led by seven points - 10-3 - in the opening minutes, but the Saints climbed back into the contest and got within one at the 8:05 mark, 17-16.
The Pirates pushed their advantage to 28-18 with the help of an 11-2 run highlighted by a Brock Young steal and three-point play conversion.
Legan drained a 3-pointer and Hinnant sank a jumper in the half's closing minutes to take a 33-25 lead into the locker room.
Leading 43-34 with 14:20 remaining, the Pirates went on a 19-0 run over a seven-minute stretch to expand their advantage to 28 points, 62-34. The scoring rally was capped off by three consecutive 3-pointers from Hinnant, Abrams and sophomore Jontae Sherrod.
ECU shot 25-for-53 (47.2 percent) from the field and made 9-of-27 (33.3 percent) 3-pointers, including 7-of-14 from behind the arc in the second half. The Pirates held the Saints to shoot 16-of-49 (32.7 percent) from the field and 6-for-24 (25 percent) in the second half.
The Pirates return to the hardwood on December 13 at 7 p.m. against UNC Greensboro inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
