| EAST CAROLINA QUOTES
ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"I'm proud of my team for finding a way to win; that's a good basketball team. It was a weird game, an odd game. You've got to be able to find ways to win it. I know people hear `Gardner-Webb' and they think something different. Those who know basketball and study the game, they know how good that basketball team is. We're fortunate to win. I was worried about this game coming out of the North Carolina game. That's why I started talking about it in the locker room after the [UNC] game."
"We found a way to win defensively the last five minutes. It was a really odd finish at the end but I liked the way we defended. We had some key stops at crucial times."
On Maurice Kemp being the goto guy
"He can score in a variety of ways. He scored a little bit in the post, he scored driving the ball to the basket and hit a 3. He made some big offensive plays for us tonight."
On his team's first half play
"We were terrific early. We moved the ball well and got some great looks. They are one of the top defensive efficiency teams in the country and they've played high level people. I was surprised at the looks we got and that were able to get the ball inside the way we did. We were 12 on them early, then we took some bad shots and got away from what we were doing and let them back in the game. We knew they weren't going to go away and that it was probably going to come down to the end."
Gardner-Webb Head Coach Chris Holtmann
"You got to give Coach Lebo and his team credit; it's not always easy to play a team where in some cases you're expected to beat. I thought they out executed us and played smarter than we did in the last four minutes."
"I'm proud of our guys and their effort. I didn't think we played particularly great specifically in the first half but I thought they just continued to stay with it and have a belief. We need to get to where we're winning these games that come down to a one-possession game against certainly a team from a bigger league and a better league. I'm confident we will, if we continue to work like we need to."
Senior Forward Maurice Kemp
"It didn't surprise me that they were a good team. We watched a lot of film on them and we knew how good they were. We knew beat DePaul on the road, almost beat Illinois and were up by 20 on Iowa. We weren't surprised how good they were. We knew that they weren't scared to play on the road, so we were expecting a good game."
On what Coach Lebo talked about during the final timeouts
"He was telling us to stay focused and to listen to his game plan. I know after I missed my free throws I was still harping on it and he was telling me to let it go and to focus on what we had to do in the game."
Freshman Forward Marshall Guilmette
"We executed really well to start off the game. We got some momentum going, then we lost focus and didn't execute properly."
On the physical play
"To be honest in practice we get after it, so I'm used to physicality and the pressure. I've gotten used to it so I don't even think about it. I'm thinking about getting back on defense, staying in the game and just playing."
