| ECU QUOTES
ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"That was a good win for our team here at home after Christmas break and having a week off. Defensively we did some nice things, holding them to 35 percent from the field. We did a good job of taking away 3-point shooters, which is something we thought coming into the game that was the way they could possibly hurt us. We did a good job until the end -- (Pendarvis) Williams hit a couple of tough ones on us at the end, but we did a good job of understanding their personnel and defending for the most part. I think we rebounded it late as good as we're capable of, and that's a concern for us, particularly at the five-spot. We ran our offense as good as we've done it all year. I thought we we're pretty effective when we didn't try to make a play on no passes or one pass. When we ran our stuff I thought we executed very well and shot at a high percentage."
On Miguel Paul's performance...
"He's aggressive and he bounced back like a senior is supposed to. He didn't mope about it. He didn't make excuses about it or blame other people. His performance at UMass wasn't good, but he knows it. He came to work in practice, worked hard and was aggressive tonight. He's going to take the blunt of a lot of people's thoughts here in preparation for us. They doubled him a lot, they pressed him a lot, they were trying to be physical and not let him get the ball back. He's going to have to elevate his game. He understands he's got pressure on him to perform. We have to have him playing at a high level for us to be effective. That's just the way it is, and when he is, we're pretty good."
On team performance...
"We got some buckets inside, and we executed and passed it pretty well. Twenty-one assists on 24 baskets is darn good. We shared it for the most part pretty well. Offensively we shot foul shots well, and we did a lot of good things. In the first half we let them stay in the game because of fouling, and live-ball turnovers resulted in layups in the first half, and some offensive rebounds. They shot it poorly, so they had more opportunities to get offensive rebounds."
Norfolk State Head Coach Anthony Evans
"I thought both teams played really hard. It was a good opportunity for us. ECU took control of the game toward the end. They made the plays that were necessary to close the game out."
On the end of the game...
"We had a chance. Obviously when you make 3-point shots you have an opportunity, but time ran out. Like I said, they did a great job of controlling the boards, making tough shots, and knocking down free throws."
Senior Forward Maurice Kemp
On his performance...
"I was just trying to do whatever I could to help us, whether it was on the defense or the offense I was just trying to make plays. I was trying to play hard. We needed this win, so that's all I was thinking about."
"I know my team and my coaches have confidence in me. Miguel is doing a great job of getting me great looks, and I just try to finish them."
Senior Guard Miguel Paul
On his decision making process...
"I'm picking between the line of shooting and not shooting. We have so much talent, and it's challenging me to find out when and where I pick my spots to score. They tell me not to worry about that, just to go out there and play. The ref during the breaks showed me what I need to do and I watched him and coach. Now I know what I need to do and where to get different spots, and still be a great facilitator also to score."
