ECU, Georgia State Postgame Quotes

Dec. 29, 2013

Recap |  Box Score

ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening Statement
"That's a disappointing loss for us, but give Georgia State credit, they're hard to guard. They have four perimeter players that were terrific. We shot it so poorly the first half. We missed foul shots and layups; shot 34 percent, and were 1 of 11 from three. We were only down eight, but really it should have been 20 in the first half. So really, we felt good about only being down eight. We came out with a little energy and enthusiasm (to start the second half), but Harrow just took over the second half. You can tell why he was a top 20 player in the country; why he went to NC State and started at Kentucky. He wasn't going to let them lose tonight. Nine assists and no turnovers, it was a big night for him. He's been a big difference maker for them."

On Georgia State's defense
"We finally made some shots in the second half. We got some good looks, but Paris (Roberts-Campbell) struggled a little bit tonight. If we're going to be little, we've got to have the little guys make some shots. So that really hurt us tonight against the zone. In the second half we did a much better job of attacking it. We got to the free throw line, which is what we've been doing. We just didn't shoot it very well today. That was a big difference in the game, a tough night for us there."

On Michael Zangari's performance
"Mike was really good, especially offensively in the second half.. He didn't have a left hand when he came; you might as well have cut his left arm right off. He's really worked hard at the left, and almost likes it better now than he does with his right. But I thought the second half offensively he did some rally good things in there. He's just learning, and he's like a freshman really because he hasn't played. Sometimes defensively he's not yet ready to see the next play happen, but that will come with time and experience. Offensively he gave us everything we needed inside for this game. We need to have one or two more guys step up on the perimeter to help him inside."

Georgia State Head Coach Ron Hunter
Opening Statement
"We're really proud of our guys. I just told them a few minutes ago that this win was really a product of us playing a tough schedule. We've played at Vanderbilt, at Southern Miss, at Alabama, and at Elon. We've only had one Division I home game. We set the schedule up so that when we get to this point, we feel like we're playing some pretty good basketball. I don't know if we could've won this game if we hadn't had a close loss at FIU and Southern Miss. Those loses helped us win this game and close this game out. My team is growing up and we really like that. This is a quality win for our team."

On the bench performance
"Our bench production doesn't come in points. If we can get 89 points from our starters we're okay. Our bench gives us a different type of production. So we use it to rest guys and really give us production defensively. I thought our bench did a great job defensively, especially when they made the run and a couple of guys got in some foul trouble."

On the win against East Carolina
"I challenged our guys and said `Hey, can we beat the best teams in Conference USA, and if we can, can we do it on the road?' Ever since Christmas night, this has been what we talked about. We challenged these guys to beat a good team on the road.

ECU Senior Akeem Richmond
"We got off to a really slow start. We didn't shoot the ball well at all and we didn't defend. I feel like we played well the second half, but the first half we got off to a slow start."

"We executed well on offense. We were getting wide-open looks we would normally make but we just didn't shoot it well. That's not going to happen every single night. We are in the gym putting in the work every day. Shots are going to fall you just have to have the confidence to knock them down."

"You have to tip your hat off to Georgia State. They are a pretty good basketball team. Ryan Harrow took over and played an amazing game."

"We can't panic. "I feel like we are playing pretty well right now. It is still early. We just have to take it one day at a time and come back and work hard tomorrow and get ready for Campbell on Thursday night.
