Pirates' Road Jinx Comes To An End

    TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Frank Robinson scored 19 points and East Carolina snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 59-57 victory over South Florida on Tuesday night.

    South Florida went on a 15-3 run in the final seven minutes, tying the game at 57. But Robinson hit a pair of free throws with 11.5 seconds left to close the scoring. Konimba Diarra's desperation shot at the buzzer missed the mark, sending the Bulls to their sixth straight loss.

    Derrick Wiley had 14 points and 11 rebounds for East Carolina (9-9, 1-7 Conference USA). Erroyl Bing added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates, who had been winless in 20 road games alltime against league opponents.

    Brian Swift scored 20 points for South Florida (6-11, 0-6), which is on its longest losing streak in five years.

    Bradley Mosley had 15 points for the Bulls. Gerrick Morris added 12 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots, and Terrence Leather had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

  • ECU snapped an eight-game overall losing streak and a 13-game Conference USA slide.
  • Freshman Frank Robinson scored a career-high 19 points and recorded career-highs in minutes, field goals and three-point field goals made.
  • Senior Erroyl Bing became the third leading rebounder in school history (857).
  • Senior Derrick Wiley recorded his fourth double-double of the season and fifth of his career. Bing notched his fourth double-double of the year and 22nd of his career.
