Young Named Third-Team All-Conference

TULSA, Okla. --- East Carolina junior guard Brock Young has been named third-team All-Conference USA by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches and selected media members. Young becomes just the second Pirates to receive All-Conference USA honors. Young, who led the conference is assists as a sophomore last season, currently leads the leagues in assists again this year with a 5.5 per game average. Young ranks among the conference's top 11 in four other categories: free throw percentage (.817, third), minutes played (34.8, fifth), scoring (15.3, seventh), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3, 10th) and steals (1.6, 11th). Earlier this season, Young became East Carolina's all-time assist leader surpassing the former mark of 416. He has distributed 474 helpers in 90 games played during his first seasons with the Pirates. His 5.27 assist per game career average currently ranks as second-best in school history. He has led ECU in scoring 15 times this season and posted double figures in 25 games, including fives game in which he scored over 20 points. Young recorded the first 30-point game of his career against Tulsa by dropping in an even 30 points. He has scored 458 point so far this season, which is the most by an ECU player since Anton Gill scored 486 during the 1994-95 season. The Pirates open the 2010 GMC Sierra Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla. as the 10th-seed, taking on seventh-seeded Houston at the BOK Center at 1 p.m. EST.
