Pirates Honored By N.C. Senate For Winning CIT

RALEIGH, N.C. - The East Carolina University Men's Basketball Team was recognized for its postseason achievements by the North Carolina Senate inside the legislative building Wednesday afternoon.

Sponsored by Rep. Louis Pate of District 7, the General Assembly passed Senate Resolution 726 - `A senate resolution honoring East Carolina University Men's Basketball Team on winning the 2013 CollegeInsiders.com Postseason Tournament.'

Paris Roberts-Campbell, Akeem Richmond, Peyton Robbins and Director of Basketball Operations Kyle Robinson represented the Pirates along with Executive Associate Athletics Director Nick Floyd with members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors were recognized minutes after the 3 p.m. session convened.

"I'm just honored to be here," Richmond said. "I'm happy for my teammates, my coaches and everyone around us that are Pirate fans."

"It still didn't feel real until we actually got here, but it was a great experience," Campbell stated.

The Pirates defeated Weber State on April 2, 77-74, to win the CIT title as Richmond buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer, which capped a two-week odyssey with the program's first-ever postseason championship.
