HIGH POINT, N.C. --- East Carolina senior forward Maurice Kemp earned first team 2013 University Division All-State honors as announced by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Friday. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Kemp led Conference USA in scoring this season averaging 18.9 points per game, while ranking among the league's top 10 in rebounding (8.2 rpg), steals (1.7 spg), blocks (1.1 spg) and field goal percentage (.505). He also finished 30th in the nation in scoring and ranked among the top 100 in rebounding.

A first-team All-Conference USA and second-team NABC District XII selection, Kemp finished the season with 660 points to become just the third player in school history to surpass 600 points in a season. The 2013 Postseason Tournament (CIT) MVP, Kemp scored over 20 points 19 times with a pair of 30-point games during the 35-game season. Kemp posted double figures in 32 games and recorded 10 double-doubles. In addition, he set the Pirates' single-season record for free throws made with 182.

Kemp is the first Pirate to earn first-team all-state honors since the NCCSIA began selecting an all-state team in 2005. Corey Rouse (2006), Sam Hinnant (2009), Brock Young (2010) and Jontae Sherrod (2011) each previously received second-team all-state honors. Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.
