KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- East Carolina's Petar Torlak was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2012-13 Honors Court today as announced by the NABC. The award recognizes those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season.
A business major carrying a 3.61 GPA, Torlak is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has been named the to ECU All-Academic Team each of the last two years. Torlak appeared in four games this past season, averaging 5.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 9.0 minutes per game.
The 6-1, 185-pound Serbian guard is one of the three players from C-USA named to the NABC Honors Court. Other C-USA recipients are Bahrom Fiozgary and Austin Ramljak of Rice.
The NABC Honors Court awards the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution.
