Pirates Conclude First Week Of Practice
Oct. 20, 2010
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's basketball team wrapped up its first week of practice Wednesday and first-year coach Jeff Lebo has been very pleased with his team's early season progression.
"I've been pleased with the kids' attitudes to date," Lebo said. "They've worked awfully hard and have been very responsive with what we asked them to do. I've been surprised at their ability to pick up things so quickly."
The Pirates return all five starters from last year's squad, including a foursome of seniors. Brock Young and Jamar Abrams started all 31 games for the Pirates last season and ranked first and third on the team in scoring. Jontae Sherrod played in all 31 games with 26 starts, while Chad Wynn, who is a fifth-year senior, played in 27 games with 26 starts before missing the final four games due to injury.
"We have some talented guys, but we have to learn about chemistry, find our roles and get our kids to understand that all those roles are very important to our team," Lebo said. "There are a lot of things you can do to help your basketball team that require no talent.
"We want to be in great shape, improve defensively and be able to play hard for long periods of time."
The Pirates are preparing for the 2010-11 season opener on Nov. 12th against Erskine inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. ECU will play an exhibition game Nov. 5th against Montreat.
