GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Four prep players - three of which are listed at 6-foot-8 or taller - signed letters of intent to play basketball at East Carolina next season head coach Ricky Stokes announced today.

Gabe Blair (Kings Mountain, N.C./Hope Christian HS), John Fields (Fayetteville, N.C./Jack Britt HS), Hillary Haley (Ft. Washington, Md./Friendly HS) and Chad Wynn (Marietta, Ga./North Atlanta Prep) will make up the Pirate freshman class of 2007 and give the Pirates much needed depth in the frontcourt.

"We are very pleased with the decision of these four young men to come to East Carolina," said Stokes. "One of our primary goals during the recruiting process was to strengthen our frontcourt and we were able to sign four versatile players that meet our needs. Each of these players had a great desire to be a Pirate and we're very excited to have them on board."

Blair, 6-8 and 190 pounds, averaged 13 points and seven rebounds at Prince Avenue High in Pickens, S.C. last season before moving to the Charlotte metro area, where he played AAU for the Charlotte Royals this summer.

As a junior at Fayetteville Academy last season, Fields, 6-9 and 205 pounds, averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. Since that time Fields has transferred to Jack Britt High School where he'll compete during his senior season.

Haley, 6-6 and 195 pounds, averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds last season. Haley was named one of the top prospects in the D.C. Metro area by the Washington Post at the end of the 2004-05 season.

Wynn, 6-11 and 255 pounds, averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks per game as at Marietta High School last season.
