ECU Men Go For Sixth Consecutive Win Monday Night Against Virginia Tech

    GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina's men's basketball team plays its first of three consecutive home games Monday night (7 p.m.) when the Pirates host Big East rival Virginia Tech in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

    The game, just the Pirates third home game of the year, will air live across the 26-station Pirate Sports Radio Netowrk, including WCZI (98.3 FM) and WGPM (94.3 FM) in Greenville. There is no television scheduled for the contest.

    Off to its best start in 48 years, East Carolina (5-0) returns to Minges Coliseum after posting a pair of road victories. The Pirates recorded thier largest margin over victory ever over a D-I opponent on Tuesday night against Radford and then won for the second time in their past three trips to Old Dominion on Saturday.

    The Pirates are coming off a 75-67 win over Old Dominion on Saturday night. ECU led start to finish en route to its 10th consecutive win over a non-Conference USA foe. East Carolina led by as many as 12, but found itself up only three with 0:16 seconds left in the game. Gabriel Mikulas and Derrick Wiley made 5-of-6 free throws in the final seconds to ensure ECU's fifth win of the year.

    Virginia Tech enters the game on a down-note, losing at William & Mary 60-52 on Saturday. The Hokies scored just 13 points an d shot 16.7 percent from the field in the first half against the Tribe. Carlos Dixon led the Hokies with 12 points, while Bryant Matthews added 11 points.

    Virginia Tech leads the all-time series, 12-3. The two teams have split each of the past four meetings with each team winning two games on its home floor. The Hokies defeated East Carolina, 90-62, in Blacksburg a year ago. East Carolina is 3-1 against the Hokies in Greenville.
