Dec. 10, 2007
IRVING, Texas - East Carolina junior guard Sam Hinnant has been named Conference USA Player-of-the-Week announced league officials on Monday. Hinnant averaged 23.0 points in a pair of games against Atlantic Coast Conference foes, including a career-high 30 points in the Pirates' 75-69 win over North Carolina State on Saturday.
Against the Wolfpack, he tied his career-high with six 3-point field goals and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:13 remaining to secure the ECU lead. Hinnant also nailed a 3-pointer at the end of the first half against NC State to send the game to halftime tied at 38-all.
For the week, he shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from beyond the arc and 65.0 percent (13-of-20) from the field. Hinnant led the Pirates in scoring in both games, with 16 points against No. 17 Clemson on Wednesday.
He became only the second player in ECU history to score 30 points against NC State in the 18-game series history. His 19 first-half points against the Wolfpack marked the second time this season that he scored 19 points in a half (he also had 19 in the first half at USF).
This is Hinnant's first C-USA Player-of-the-Week honor.
