1963 Eastern Bowl - East Carolina 27, Northeastern 6
Dec. 14, 1963 ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Despite intense cold and a frozen field, East Carolina proved victorious over Northeastern University, 27-6, in the 1963 Eastern Bowl. Tom Michel scored the first Pirate touchdown on a 15-yard run in the first period. Two field goals by Northeastern tied the game at 6-6, but from then on, the game belonged to the Pirates. In the second half, Michel took a lateral and ran 82 yards for the go-ahead score. In less than three minutes, Larry Rudisill scored on an 81-yard pass play from Bill Cline. A 17-yard pass from Buddy Bovender to Maurice Allen gave the Pirates their final touchdown of the day. Michel was voted as the game's best back and Frankie Galloway was voted as the most valuable player of the game.
