Sharp Passing Effort, Rush Defense Dominates Second Scrimmage

Provides another compelling entry in East Carolina’s book of walk-on success stories, especially from the linebacking unit … A personable, yet intense competitor who has risen from a walk-on scout team contributor to a viable two-deep standing to a possible starting assignment in just four seasons … As previously mentioned, earned initial roster position as a walk-on during the spring of 2013 and was deservedly promoted to scholarship status on Oct. 4, 2015 … Expected to open senior campaign battling Jordan Williams for the top “mike” inside linebacking job … Also has developed into a noted special teams stalwart and could experience additional action on various units depending on final defensive assignment … Overall, has played in 21 career games and booked 36 tackles (18 solo) … Has collected multiple tackle totals on nine occasions … Played in two bowl games … Led all tacklers with six hits during the first spring scrimmage (April 9) … Credited with three stops, one resulting in a four-yard loss, in the Purple-Gold Game on April 16 … Oft-recognized by strength and conditioning staff for work ethic and physical progress … Spring testing performance ranked as “excellent” according coach Jeff Connors’ power quotient … A “Super Pirate” who ranked among the top 10 percent of linebacking unit in eight categories – front squat (410 pounds), power clean (352), vertical leap (35”), broad jump (9’6”), pro shuttle (4.02), three-cone drill (6.81), long shuttle (11.54) and flex rating (14) … Also turned in a bench press of 360 and a push jerk of 318.

2015: Played in all 12 contests and made one start (at UCF) – the first of collegiate career … Credited with 27 stops (15 solo) … Topped all special teams tacklers with 10 (seven on kickoff returns, three on punt returns) … As a top linebacker reserve, booked 17 hits – 16 on rushes and one on a passing play … Registered a pair of hits behind the line of scrimmage (-2 yards) in separate outings vs. Tulsa and UCF … Produced at least one tackle in 10 contests and tallied multiple stops on six occasions … Closed campaign strongly with a combined 12 tackles in back-to-back tilts against UCF (career-high seven) and Cincinnati (five) … Other efforts of note include four stops vs. Golden Hurricane, three vs. Virginia Tech and two each against Florida and Temple … Opened season with one or more hits in five-straight games … Served as a game captain two times – vs. SMU and Connecticut.

Three of seven stops came on kickoff coverage squad ... Forced first career fumble and credited with a pass breakup against Tulane ... Other multi-stop outing against N.C. Central (two) in season opener … Also logged single hit vs. UCF.

2013: Quick development enabled move from walk-on status to game-day participant in a span of less than eight months … Played in two games during inaugural campaign in the ECU program – UAB and Ohio (Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl) … Recorded first collegiate tackles (two) vs. Blazers … One hit came on a rushing play, the other on a pass completion … Did not record any statistics against the Bobcats at Tropicana Field.

High School: A three-year football letterman for coach Sean Crocker at Middle Creek … Tallied 129 total tackles (104 solo), 15 TFLs, one sack, two pass breakups, one interception and two forced fumbles to earn first-team all-conference honors as a senior in 2011 … Logged 92 stops (77 solo) and 13 TFLs during junior season … Also added six pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles on the way to all-conference (honorable mention) accolades in 2010 … Picked up three additional varsity letters as a lacrosse starting defenseman who helped lead MCHS to a third-round playoff appearance as a junior.
