Pirates Ready For First Scrimmage At Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium

Hopes to significantly contribute on both the offensive unit and special teams squad as a sophomore, but development has been hampered by injuries during the first two seasons of his collegiate career ... Suffered a right knee injury early during his redshirt campaign in 2011 that limited progress before missing most of the 2013 spring workout period with a left shoulder injury (on April 3, prior to scrimmage competition) ... Expected to be a "full-go" during preseason camp and will battle for playing time in a deep running back position that includes returning starter Vintavious Cooper, walk-on Cory Hunter and newcomers Breon Allen and Marquez Grayson ... Should contend for a top-tier special teams job for a second-straight year ... A personable, exciting and heady playmaker who can fill a myriad of roles, including reliable receiving assignments in the flats ... Has displayed considerable growth in strength and conditioning program with lifts of 310 pounds (bench) and 405 (back squat), and jumps of 33" (vertical) and 112" (broad).

2012: Played in 11 contests in a special teams role during first campaign on the Pirates' active roster ... Was not credited with any statistics, either offensively or on return squads ... Did not play against Appalachian State and UAB.

2011: Served developmental role on scout squad as a redshirt until suffering season-ending injury during ECU's off week (following Virginia Tech contest).

High School: Two-year starter and team captain at running back for the Mustangs ... Finished senior season with 1,156 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns on 140 carries ... An All-Forsyth County selection following final campaign ... Gained 265 yards on the ground and three touchdowns on 24 carries during an Oct. 1 loss to Glenn High School ... Tallied 185 yards and three scores on only 12 carries in 46-14 win over Atkins Sept. 10 ... Collected 1,279 yards and had nine touchdowns on 187 carries as a junior ... Broke collarbone as a freshman, limiting experience ... Played for head coach Dee Bell ... Was timed at 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash ... Rated by ESPN.com as the 114th-best running back in the country ... Also earned varsity letters in track, finishing sixth at the 2010 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Midwest Regional in the 100 meters and placing eighth in the 200 meters.
