Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill Discusses The Start Of Spring Practice

Appears to have fully recovered from a right knee injury suffered Sept. 14, 2011, while a member of the scout squat that sidelined him for the remainder of the season ... Completed rehabilitation efforts during the spring, bouncing back strongly to earn inclusion on the depth chart as one of five potential rotating or situational rushers in the Pirates' backfield ... Could also experience action on special teams as a means to contribute as a redshirt freshman ... An exciting and heady playmaker who can fill a myriad of roles, including serving as a reliable receiver in the flats ... Enjoyed a stellar spring debut by leading all rushers with 27 yards on just four carries and topped all pass catchers with four receptions for 18 yards during the first scrimmage on March 31 ... After picking up 10 yards on six attempts in the second contest a week later, finished drills in impressive fashion by averaging 8.7 yards per run (6-52) during the Purple-Gold Game on April 14 ... Strength and conditioning testing was limited because of injury, but did improve prep 40 time and benched 310 pounds.

2011: Served developmental role on scout squad as a redshirt until suffering season-ending injury during ECU's off week (following Virginia Tech contest).

High School: Two-year starter at running back for the Mustangs ... Finished senior season with 1,156 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns on 140 carries ... An All-Forsyth County selection following final campaign ... Gained 265 yards on the ground and three touchdowns on 24 carries during an Oct. 1 loss to Glenn High School ... Tallied 185 yards and three scores on only 12 carries in 46-14 win over Atkins Sept. 10 ... Collected 1,279 yards and had nine touchdowns on 187 carries as a junior ... Broke collarbone as a freshman, limiting experience ... Played for head coach Dee Bell ... Has been timed at 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash ... Rated by ESPN.com as the 114th-best running back in the country ... Ran track for Parkland, finishing sixth at the 2010 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Midwest Regional in the 100 meters and placing eighth in the 200 meters.
