Sharp Passing Effort, Rush Defense Dominates Second Scrimmage
Will open second active season on the East Carolina roster competing for a place on the defensive two-deep after recovering from a right knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2014 campaign … Made move from outside linebacker to defensive end during the spring to both facilitate playing time and address personnel shortages on the line … Listed as a reserve back end behind Terrell Stanley and Fred Presley to open preseason camp … Also hopes to earn initial on-the-field action as a member of various special teams squads … Was not credited with a tackle during the first spring scrimmage (March 28), but logged a pair of stops and a sack (-5 yards) during the second tilt on April 11 … Followed with another quarterback drop (-3 yards) and three additional hits during the Purple-Gold Game a week later … Continues to display impressive growth in ECU’s strength and conditioning program, adding 17 pounds to frame during off-season work … Spring testing numbers of note include a 390-pound bench press (35-pound improvement from previous year), 480-pound back squat, 285-pound power clean and a 265-pound push jerk … Turned in one of the unit’s top shot put throws at 65’9”.

High School: Tallied 60 tackles (33 solo), 8.0 sacks and one fumble recovery during senior campaign as both a defensive end and outside linebacker for coach Keith Wilkes at Vance ... A key contributor for a Cougar program that produced a 9-4 overall record, a 5-2 mark in 4A I-Meck play and a second-round North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoff appearance (after defeating Myers Park 40-17 in the opener) ... Attended Davidson Day School as a junior, collecting 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks in a three-game, injury-shortened season (before bouncing to back to earn a basketball letter during the winter) ... Opened prep career at Vance and lettered as a sophomore on a squad that went 11-4 and reached the semifinals of the state 4-AA playoffs ... Reportedly bench-pressed 375 pounds, squatted 500 and ran a 4.8 40-yard dash during prep testing.
