Finally enjoyed an opportunity to compete during the spring practice period after being slowed by shoulder surgery and subsequent rehabilitation the previous two off-seasons ... Opened career with a quick ascent up the defensive unit's depth chart under the previous coaching staff, but injuries have delayed additional development ... Still considered one of the Pirates' more versatile and athletic players on the defensive side of the ball who should greatly benefit from the move to a 3-4 scheme as an outside linebacker after briefly shifting to a similar hybrid defensive end role in the beginning of the 2009 campaign ...
