Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill Discusses The Start Of Spring Practice

A sizable and quick defender who hopes to move to outside linebacking position (from end) will increase playing opportunities and earn inclusion on active depth chart … Appeared to acclimate quickly to new surroundings during the spring and could earn two-deep placement with continued development during preseason camp … Could also experience heightened role up front on various special teams squad in order to get added game-day experience … Already has three spring seasons under his belt after reporting early in 2013 … Opened 2015 drills with a tackle for lost yardage in each of the first two scrimmages (March 28, April 11) … Was not credited with any stops during the Purple-Gold Game (April 18) … Development in the Pirates’ strength and conditioning program has remained on a steady incline since arrival … Power lifts of note include a 355-pound bench press, a 286-pound power clean and a back squat of 485 pounds.
