The oldest, and by game experience, the most experienced of four candidates competing for the Pirates' top quarterback position this fall ... Was Dominique Davis' understudy during a record-breaking 2010 campaign, but dropped slightly on unit's two-deep in 2011 and spent season on scout squad ... Cited by offensive coaching staff for consistency, accuracy, poise and grasp of spread assignments ... Captured local headlines and developed into a "feel-good" media story during the spring of 2010 because of rise from scout team obscurity to a preseason starter's designation (prior to the arrival of Davis) ... Originally began East Carolina career as an invited walk-on during preseason camp in the fall of 2008 and earned subsequent roster position after being encouraged to participate with the Pirates by former tight ends coach Phil Petty ... Completed six-of-eight passes for 26 yards during the first 2012 spring scrimmage on March 31 ... Totaled 20 yards (two-of-four) in limited work during the second intra-squad battle (April 7) ...
