Has quickly emerged as a viable impact-producing prospect after displaying significant growth and development on ECU’s scout squad last fall and turning in a solid spring performance … Will open first active campaign on the Pirates’ roster among the defensive depth chart – competing with Pat Green for top reserve duties at the “sam” outside linebacking position … Understanding of scheme and athleticism could also result in action at the “will” slot as well as special teams (for added game-day repetitions) … Was not credited with any tackles during the first spring scrimmage (March 28), but posted three stops (including a sack for a loss of six yards) during the second contest on April 11 … Logged a pair of tackles during the Purple-Gold Game on April 18 … Power numbers have improved steadily in strength and conditioning program, booking lifts of 300 pounds (bench), 450 (back squat) and 274 (power clean) … Possesses plenty of quickness as evidenced by a 4.5 clip in the 40 and a 11.87 time in the 60 shuttle.

2014: Redshirted during true freshman season … Made valuable contributions to the defensive scout squad, earning praise from offensive coaches during weekly opponent preparation work … Signed with the Pirates in February.

High School: A three-star recruit according to ESPN.com who committed to the Pirate program prior to the start of the 2013 season on Aug. 22 … Ranked as the No. 24 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina with a national grade of 75 (ESPN.com) … A two-year all-conference performer for coach Aldine Payne at Glenn High School … Earned three football letters and served as the Bobcats’ team captain as a senior … Split time at both defensive end and outside linebacker in 2013 … Selected as a game MVP after leading GHS to a 42-0 victory over Winston-Salem Parkland in the ’13 season opener … Also earned additional letters in basketball and track (hurdles).

Personal: Full name is Yiannis A.C. Bowden … Born Sept. 26, 1996 at High Point, N.C. … Son of Boysie Bowden … A communications major … Says recruiting style, membership in the American Athletic Conference, relationship with coaches and facilities were reasons for choosing to sign with the Pirates.
