GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina conducted its second spring workout with a two-hour session that wrapped up early Saturday afternoon on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
Fifth-year ECU Head Coach Ruffin McNeill and his staff continued to stress both individual and positional fundamentals throughout Saturday's practice, which similar to the opener Friday, was conducted in sunny and breezy conditions with temperatures in the 70s.
After starting with traditional individual drills, both units spent the remainder of the late morning and noon hour engaged in skeleton, situational, unit-specific one-on-one and 11-on-11 segments. The Pirates also covered punts during a pair of special teams phases before a 25-minute "team vs. scouts" period, which emphasized redzone and goal line work, highlighted and capped the session.
"I am very pleased with the continuity of all phases," McNeill said. "We've also done a good job adjusting to certain things so far and I think the communication between players has been a big part of that. I like the tempo and focus we've had the first two days and I'm excited about progressing to another level next week."
McNeill will direct one more introductory practice in shells Monday before eventually moving to full pads in preparation for the first scrimmage of the spring on March 29.
