Head Coach Ruffin McNeill
April 7, 2014
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina began its third and final full week of the spring practice period with a lively two-hour workout Monday afternoon on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Complex.
The Pirates returned to action in shells after conducting their second intra-squad scrimmage of the spring Saturday morning. After turning in its 10th practice, ECU has just two more workouts scheduled - one being a mandated non-contact outing - before the playing of the Purple-Gold Game Saturday.
Head coach Ruffin McNeill added an extended video session to review Saturday's contest in position groups before heading out to the complex and beginning his on-the-field instruction. He reiterated his earlier thoughts after seeing the tape, citing the continuation of the Pirates' competitive spirit and the improvement of fundamentals as a few of the biggest positives produced by the scrimmage.
"The key to success is to be consistent, and when that happens, there's improvement," McNeill said. "The goal is always to play assignment-sound football with a clear mind and the reps we've been getting are starting to put us in a position to do that. I thought we came out today and had a competitive practice on both sides of the ball."
After Wednesday's shell workout and Friday's shorts-only outing, ECU's coaching staff will re-define their depth chart and evaluate the latest injury report to determine No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 matchups that will be utilized for the Purple-Gold Game, which is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
