GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina began its fourth and final week of the spring practice period with a brisk and productive 100-minute workout Monday afternoon on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Complex.

The Pirates returned to action in shells under the direction of fourth-year head coach Ruffin McNeill after completing their second intra-squad scrimmage Saturday morning. After turning in its 13th practice, ECU has just one more workout scheduled - a mandated non-contact outing - before closing camp with the Purple-Gold Game Saturday.

"It was a good Monday," McNeill said. "I thought the guys flew around out there, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I'll use one of my favorite terms - they played with a lot snap."

McNeill delayed the start of practice 30 minutes to allow for an extended video session to review Saturday's contest in position groups before heading out to the complex and beginning his on-the-field instruction. He remained pleased after watching the tape and finishing his evaluations, citing execution, a solid fundamental approach and a notable intensity level as positives. On the other hand, he was disappointed in the Pirates' inability to eliminate or at least mitigate their penalty yardage for the second-straight week.

After Wednesday's shorts-only practice, ECU's coaching staff will re-define their depth chart to determine No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 matchups that will be utilized for the Purple-Gold Game, which is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Tickets, which are priced at $5.00 for the contest or $10.00 with the addition of a plate of barbecue and soft drink from the Pigskin Pig-Out Party, can be purchased via ECU's Online Ticket Center or by calling (252) 737-4500 locally or (800) DIAL-ECU outside the Greenville area.

Fellow ILBs Kyle Tudor and Brandon Williams each logged pass breakups while DEs Terrell Stanley and Terry Biles teamed up for a sack ... Offensively, QB Shane Carden was nine-of-12 passing for 103 yards - 31 coming on a scoring toss to IWR Justin Hardy ... Carden also accounted for another TD with a nine-yard run.
