GREENVILLE, N.C. - Head coach Ruffin McNeill and his East Carolina Pirates will officially complete their spring season Saturday with the playing of the annual Purple-Gold Game at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Joining McNeill and his staff on the sidelines will be seven honorary coaches - two student, two faculty/staff and two Pirate Club selections, along with one ECU letterwinner.

The two students were chosen as winners of the football program's inaugural "ECU Student Coach For A Day" contest where the entire student body was encouraged to submit videos explaining why they should be coaches for the spring game. All the entries were judged by the members of the 2013 team who tabbed Todd Dudley and James Tilley as winners. In addition to full participation in the Pirates' game-day schedule, the pair will also call one play during the scrimmage.

Other honorary coaches include Dr. Viva Reynolds (geography) and Kelly Ayscue (child development & family relations) for the faculty/staff, Billy Dunn and Landon Minges for the Pirate Club, and Vern Davenport representing the letterwinners.

Similar to the last three seasons, the contest will resemble more of an offense-versus-defense scrimmage like those played the last two weekends and primarily feature the top three levels of ECU's current depth chart. Live hitting will be permitted for all positions, except quarterback and during kickoff, punting and return situations. In addition, the Pirates will attempt all extra-point and field goal tries.

A game clock is expected to be utilized during the first half, while the second half would be marked by a play count that McNeill anticipates will reach 80 to 90 snaps for the entire afternoon..

Seating for the public will be on the north side of the stadium and fans are asked to enter through Gate 7 or Gate 8. Game tickets will be available Saturday for $5.

Barbecue from the 30th Annual Pigskin Pig-out Party will be served beginning at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, at the big white tent located adjacent to Gate 6. For convenience, there will also be a drive-thru pick-up location on Ficklen Drive. The cost of a plate of barbecue and soft drink is $10 at both locations.

As a courtesy to fans, complimentary roster flipcards containing a listing of players by uniform color (offense and defense), will be available at the entrance gate(s).
