GREENVILLE, N.C. - The kickoff time for East Carolina's non-conference contest at Virginia Tech, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, has been set for 12 noon (ET) to accommodate a live ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 national television broadcast according to a release from the Atlantic Coast Conference Tuesday.
In addition, officials from the American Athletic Conference have assigned a 7:30 p.m. start time to ECU's regular season finale against UCF at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 4. That contest will air on ESPN as previously announced.
The Pirates and Hokies will continue their 18-game series that features annual meetings until 2020. Virginia Tech, which posted an 8-5 record and made a Hyundai Sun Bowl appearance last December, hosts East Carolina for the 10th overall time and first since 2010 after recent defensive-oriented 17-10 and 15-10 victories in Greenville during the 2011 and 2013 campaigns, respectively.
Defending AAC champion and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl winner UCF will return to Dowdy-Ficklen for the first time since ECU posted a 38-31 win over the Knights on Nov. 19, 2011 in front of a sold-out crowd of 50,277. Although the Pirates lead the 12-game series with nine wins, UCF has captured two of the last three meetings - including a 40-20 decision in Orlando when the two squads last met in 2012. The Knights rolled to a 12-1 mark a year ago and stood 10th in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The Pirates, who will play their inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference this fall, were 10-3 in 2013. ECU won six of its last seven contests, including a 37-20 triumph over Ohio in the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl that successfully capped the program's seventh bowl appearance in the last eight years.
The remainder of East Carolina's kickoff times will be announced once other television broadcast schedules have been finalized.
