GREENVILLE, N.C. - The kickoff time for East Carolina's season-opening contest against North Carolina Central, scheduled for August 30 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, has been set for 8:00 p.m. (ET) according to an announcement by the American Athletic Conference on Thursday afternoon.
The game between the Pirates and Eagles will be broadcast live to a national television audience on ESPNews.
The opener represents the sixth contest on ECU's 2014 schedule which has been designated for airing on ESPN's family of networks, joining South Carolina (ESPN2/ESPNU), Virginia Tech (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2), UConn (ESPNU), Cincinnati (ESPN2) and UCF (ESPN).
The single-game contract with NCCU will mark the first meeting between the two programs, but follows earlier visits by then-FCS member Appalachian State in 2009 and 2012, which drew a combined attendance of over 92,000 to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The Eagles, who opened the 2013 campaign at ACC Coastal Division champion Duke, posted a 5-7 overall record and 3-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference ledger last fall. The contest in Greenville will also mark the debut of first-year head coach Jerry Mack, who was appointed to lead the North Carolina Central program on Dec. 19.
East Carolina, which will play its inaugural campaign in the AAC this fall under fifth-year head coach Ruffin McNeill, was 10-3 in 2013 and successfully completed the program's seventh postseason appearance in the last eight years with a 37-20 win over Ohio in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.
In addition, the AAC also confirmed a start time of 7:00 p.m. for ECU's clash against UConn on Thursday, Oct. 23.
