McNeill Offers Local Support Through N.C. Coaches for Charity
July 16, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. - East Carolina Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill and five other in-state coaches are giving back to their communities with their participation in the inaugural North Carolina Coaches for Charity. The fund-raising initiative will culminate on the evening of Tuesday, July 23 at the Hilton North Raleigh Hotel.
McNeill, who has led the Pirates to two bowl appearances in his first three years at ECU, has designated the Boys & Girls Club of Pitt County as his charity of choice for this event.
Coaches David Cutcliffe (Duke), Dave Doeren (NC State), Larry Fedora (North Carolina), Jim Grobe (Wake Forest) and Scott Satterfield (Appalachian State) will all join Pirate offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley for a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. before the program gets underway at 7 p.m. Because of McNeill's required attendance at the Conference USA Media Day in Dallas, Riley will represent his head coach's efforts and mission for this cause.
Fisher DeBerry, a native of the Carolinas and legendary former head football coach of the U.S. Air Force Academy, is hosting the event through the Fisher DeBerry Foundation. Proceeds raised are divided between the charities that each coach chooses to support.
"The state of North Carolina is blessed to have such wonderful football coaches," said DeBerry, who coached at Appalachian State before moving on to the Air Force Academy. "This will be a fun and meaningful night, and a chance for football fans to mingle with all of the coaches. Getting all of these coaches together in one room doesn't happen very often."
In addition to the cocktail reception and dinner, guests will be treated to plenty of entertainment that features highlight videos, comments from each of the coaches, and live and silent auctions.
Sponsor tables and individual tickets are now on sale for the event, but are limited. The more tickets and tables purchased by fans of each of the schools, the more money that will go towards that particular coach's charity. For information, visit www.NorthCarolinaCoaches.com or contact
