GREENVILLE, N.C. – With the home opener against Virginia Tech just two days away, the East Carolina Athletics Department continues to sell season tickets at a record pace with 24,150 packages sold through Thursday morning, eclipsing the previous standard of 23,436 set last year.
The Pirates are asking all fans in attendance for Saturday’s game against the Hokies to wear purple for the Purple Haze event. Less than 2,000 tickets remain for the opener and can be purchased at the ECU Ticket Office, which will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Tickets may also be bought on-line at www.ECUPirates.com.
In addition, tickets for the Virginia Tech clash can be purchased on the day of the game at the Williams Arena Minges Coliseum box office from 12:00 noon until halftime.
ECU has established program attendance standards during each of the last four seasons. The Pirates drew a total of 249,219 fans in 2007 before setting back-to-back regular season average records with league-best 42,016 and 43,191 clips in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The 2010 season was the strongest yet as the closed-in endzone featuring The Boneyard student section expanded the capacity of Dowdy-Ficklen to 50,000 seats, welcoming a record 297,987 fans and an average of 49,665 per home game.
Following Saturday’s opener, East Carolina has home dates remaining against UAB (Sept. 24/Family Weekend), in-state rival North Carolina (Oct. 1/Hall of Fame & Letterwinners’ Weekend), Tulane (Oct. 29/Homecoming), Southern Miss (Nov. 5/Military Appreciation Weekend) and UCF (Nov. 19/Senior Day).
