Carden Takes Home C-USA Player-of-the-Week Honors
Sept. 30, 2013
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior Shane Carden has been named Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week following his six-touchdown performance in the Pirates' 55-31 non-conference win over North Carolina. The award was the second weekly league honor for Carden this season and fifth of his career.
Carden matched a personal best by directly accounting for the six touchdowns (of seven overall) in ECU's first win in Chapel Hill since 1975. He completed 32-of-47 passes for 376 yards and three TDs against the Tar Heels, which marked his sixth career 300-plus-yard contest.
The Houston, Texas native connected on six, seven and 48-yard scoring strikes, while adding three one-yard TD rushes to help the Pirates rack up 603 yards of total offense - ECU's seventh-highest single-game total in school history (and most since 2007). He also helped ECU establish a new single-game program standard with 101 plays and match another with 36 first downs.
Carden engineered nine scoring drives in 13 total possessions vs. UNC, including five-of-six in the second half and also played a key role converting all eight red zone appearances into points. He found 12 different receivers for at least one reception (seven for two or more) and 15-of-32 completions went for 10 or more yards. In addition to his 376 passing yards, he picked up 22 ground yards on eight attempts and posted his second career sack-free game (and first since Sept. 29, 2012).
In addition to his league honor, Carden has also garnered the following weekly honors:
