Lance Ray, Shane Carden and Isaiah Jones

It was another great day for the Pirates down in St. Petersburg, Fla. ECU got the day going early with a mid morning practice at Clearwater Central Catholic High School, its final workout before moving to Tropicana Field on Sunday.
ECU finally got some free time to enjoy the beach and some water activities at the annual Beach Bash hosted by Tradewinds Resorts. First up was a late lunch buffet with both teams and the bowl sponsors, then the fun moved outside on the beach. Several of the Pirates got to take the plunge down a 30-foot water slide.
Then the friendly competition began. There were five events (hula-hoop, coaches sexy legs, water balloon toss, dance-off and belly-flop) that pitted both teams against one another. First up J.T. Boyd, Jonathan Powers and Terrell Stanely tackled the hula-hoop, where the Bobcats took the opening event. ECU pulled even when defensive line coach Marc Yellock took home the coaches sexy legs contest. Next up was the water balloon toss, where Shane Carden, Lance Ray and Isaiah Jones cruised to a victory. Carden successfully completed five of six tosses without breaking a balloon for 26 points
Following the dance-off (DaShawn Benton, Reece Speight), Ohio took a 2-1 advantage sealing the win with a reenactment of one of Kid-N-Play's trademark moves - you gotta see the video for that one. The highlight of the afternoon was the belly-flop contest. Participating for the Pirates were Christian Matau, Jonathan Powers, J.T. Boyd and Drew Gentry. Matau gave ECU an early 1-0 lead defeating his opponent. Powers followed with what was the best flop of the day, but was robbed by the judges. From then, Ohio swept the last two face-offs to take the contest and the afternoon event, 3-1.
Up next for ECU is a visit to the VA Hospital in the morning followed by the Kickoff Luncheon at the Renaissance Vinoy. From there its a regular "Friday" scheduled day with meetings then a walk-through at Tropicana Field before a team dinner and the weekly dinner.
Well that's about all for today. Check back tomorrow for the final installment of the All Hands On Deck Blog leading up to the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl Showdown with Ohio on Monday, Dec. 23rd at 2 p.m. (EST).
