Matthew Sterling was promoted to full-time assistant coach at East Carolina prior to the start of the 2012-13 season after serving two years as a graduate assistant coach. Sterling will continue to assist in all facets of the Pirates' program, including individual instruction, recruiting, academics and travel.
A native of Tiverton, R.I., Sterling was a three-year letterwinner for the Pirate golf team. He earned his MBA from ECU in the spring of 2012 after receiving his bachelor's degree two years earlier.
Sterling joined the team as a walk-on during the 2008 spring semester. He competed in nine events during his ECU career and two-time recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal for a posting a cumulative GPA of over 3.75.
Sterling played in nine-events during his two-and-one-half year career at ECU. The Pirates earned the C-USA Sport Award during each of his final two seasons.
