Complete Results in PDF Format AIKEN, S.C. -- East Carolina junior Haorld Varner fired a three-round total of four under 206 (71-67-68) to finish in second-place Tuesday at the 14th Annual Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at the 6,617-yard par 70 Palmetto Golf Club. Its his third top-5 finish of the season. Varner carded the low round of the day with a two-under 68. He was one of only three players to finish the tournament under. Individual medalist Bud Cauley of Alabama and Vanderbilt's Adam Hoffman were the others. Cauley's three-round total of 201 (66-66-69) helped him best the previous tournament individual 54-hole score of 204. Hoffman finished three strokes back of Varner in third-place with a score of one-under 209. As a team, the Pirates finished tied for fourth with Chattanooga at 26-over 866, moving up four spots from eighth-place after two rounds of competition. The Pirates closed the event with a 286 in the final round after posting scores of 293 and 285 Monday. Alabama won top honors by finishing with a nine-over 849 (288-277-284). Virginia at 860 (291-280-289) finished in second, while Liberty was in third at 862 (285-284-293). ECU junior David Watkins shot two-over 72 Tuesday to finish tied for 15th at five-over 215 (73-70-72). Jake Colley fired a 12-over 222 (75-74-73) to finish tied for 32rd, while Zach Edmondson carded a 13-over 223 (74-74-75) and tied for 38th.
The Pirates will return to the links Sunday, March 13 at the General Hackler Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
