CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team finished tied for sixth-place at the 2013 Tar Heel Intercollegiate at UNC Finley Golf Course. Senior Eric Brady was the Pirates' highest individual finisher, shooting a final round 73 to finish tied for 13th at 2-over.
As a team, East Carolina shot 18-over for the weekend to tie 15th-ranked Duke for sixth, finishing one stroke behind fifth-place VCU.
Fourth- ranked Georgia Tech won the team competition at 22-under while Tech's Seth Reeves won the individual title at 8-under (208).
Brady record four birdies and stood at 1-under through 16 holes, but double-bogeyed 17 before he pared 18 to finish at 1-over for the second time in the tournament. He also shot an opening round 73 before carding a 72 in Saturday's second round to finish with a 54-hole score of 218.
ECU sophomore Wes Conover finished tied for 23rd at 4-over, shooting 1-over 73 on Sunday. After paring 16 and 17, he birdied 18 to wrap up his tournament. Conover sank five birdies on Sunday, but had a pair of bogeys and double bogeys which disrupted his first subpar round.
Redshirt sophomore Al Dickens posted his best round of the weekend, carding a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 38th. He birdied three of the final five holes after making just three birdies during his first 49 holes played over the weekend. Dickens began the day tied for 43rd, but moved up five spots with a final tally of 8-over 224.
Sophomore Josh Chandler also finished tied for 38th at 8-over, while sophomore George Kilgore finished tied for 47th at 10-over.
Freshman Clay Brown, playing as an individual, shot a 76 on the final day to finish at 18-over.
ECU returns to tournament action Sept. 22-24 at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
