DURHAM, N.C. -- The East Carolina University men's golf team shot an 14-over-par 590 today and stands eighth after the first two rounds of the Rod Myers Invitational, hosted by Duke University at the Duke Golf Club. Two Pirates are currently in the top-20 individually, while the team stands 16 strokes out of first-place.
Eric Brady is tied for 15th-place after two rounds with a 1-over 145. Ryan Eibner is tied for 20th at 2-over 146. After shooting 6-over in the first round, Brady posted the lowest score of round two with five birdies and 13 pars to move from 48th to 15th. Eibner shot 3-under in the first round and was tied for third-place after 18 holes, but fired a 3-over on holes 19 thru 36 to fall into a tie for 20th.
ECU stood fifth after the first round with a 9-over-par 297, but slipped to eighth despite improving its team score in the second round by four strokes (293).
The host Blue Devils fired back-to-back rounds of 287 to grab a two-stroke lead over Charlotte (E, 576). The 49ers held a two-stroke advantage over Duke after 18 holes of play. North Carolina sits in third place with a five-over 581 with Baylor and Iowa rounding out the top 5 at seven-over (583). Tulsa (+8, 584), Liberty (+11, 587), East Carolina (+14, 590), Northwestern (+17, 593), Pacific (+19, 595) and N.C. State (+29, 605) complete the standings.
Duke's Julian Suri is tied for the lead at 5-under (139) with Braeden Cryderman of Charlotte and Clark Palmer of North Carolina. The Blue Devils' Adam Sumrall, playing as an individual, is two shots back after firing rounds of 67 and 74. Bailey Patrick (North Carolina) is fourth at 2-under (142) with Ryan O'Rear (Baylor), Filippo Zucchetti (Baylor), Ian Vandersee (Iowa) and Logan McCracken (Tulsa) tied for fifth at 1-under (143).
