DURHAM, N.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team fired a 21-over 885 (297-293-295) to finish tied for eighth at the 2012 Rod Myers Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Duke Golf Club.
The Pirates were led by junior Eric Brady, who tied for 10th-place at par 216 (78-67-71). After shooting 6-over in the first round, Brady fired a 6-under over the final 36 holes with 10 birdies. Fellow junior Ryan Eibner struggled over the final two rounds shooting a 5-over 77 in each round to finish tied for 35 at 7-over 223 (69-77-77).
ECU freshman Al Dickens finished two strokes behind Eibner in 41st at 9-over 225 (75-76-74). Freshman Stephen Lavenets fired a 12-over 228 (80-73-75) and tied for 47th, while senior Zach Edmondson carded a 17-over 233 to place 57th.
The host Duke Blue Devils captured the team title for the second straight season after firing a 12-under 852. Duke's Julian Suri and North Carolina's Clark Palmer battled throughout the day for the individual crown before finishing as co-medalists at 7-under 209.
The Pirates return to action on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
