Pirates Headed To San Antonio For Oak Hills Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- The East Carolina men's golf team will hit the links on Monday for the second tournament of the spring season as the Pirates will make their first appearance at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational championship.

ECU enters the two-day tournament in San Antonio following a seventh-place finish at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vera Beach, Fla. The Pirates were led by sophomore Wes Conover, who was named Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week after recording his first career top-10 finish.

Conover tied for ninth after posting rounds of 74, 82 and 67 to finish 7-over 223. He has the third-lowest stroke average on the team at 74.53. Seniors Eric Brady (73.44) and Ryan Eibner (74.25) rank one and two on the team in scoring average. Brady tied for 13th at the Sea Best Invitational with a score of 9-over 223, while Eibner did not participate.

The threesome will be joined at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational by sophomores Al Dickens and George Kilgore.

The two-day tournament in San Antonio will feature No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 30 Baylor and No. 44 Southeastern Louisiana. Conference USA foes Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Tulsa, UTEP along with host UTSA will also compete. Oklahoma won the tournament last year with a 10-over 862.

The tournament will be held at Oak Hills Country Club, which is a par-71 course and covers 6,765 yards. Rounds one and two on Monday will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CST while tee times for Tuesday's final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. ECU has been paired with Louisiana, North Texas and Tulsa for the first two rounds.
