02/17/2004 ORLANDO, FLA. -- The East Carolina men's golf team currently sits in a tie for 14th after 36-holes at the UCF/ Rio Pinar Intercollegiate. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,978-yard course at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla. The Pirates (35-34-3) are one of 18 teams participating in this year's tournament along with: Davidson, USF, Oral Roberts, Mercer, Coastal Carolina, Lamar, Wofford, South Alabama, Texas-Arlington, Kansas, Indiana, Richmond, Belmont, Middle Tennessee State, Jacksonville, Florida Atlantic and host school Central Florida. South Alabama (295-282=577) has a one-shot lead over UCF (290-288=578) after two-rounds of play in the team portion of the tournament. Coastal Carolina is 11 strokes back after posting a team score of 588 (289-299) for third, followed by Lamar University in fourth (296-298=594), with Texas-Arlington and Mercer sitting 17 shots behind the leader with a 594 score. ECU (311-308=619), who played with a man down on day one, is tied for 14th with Davidson College. Gareth Maybin of South Alabama leads the individual portion of the tournament after firing a six-under par 138 (70-68) after two rounds. He holds a three stroke advantage over UCF's Sonny Nimkhum (71-70=141) and a four shot lead over Nimkhum's teammate Barry Roof (68-74=142). The Pirates entered the tournament a man down yesterday as senior Jason Harris withdrew due to food poisoning. Calle Andren led the Pirates after posting a 36-hole total of 151 (77-74), and sits in a tie for 28th place, while fellow Pirate Brandon Pace sits one stroke back in a tie for 36th with a two-round score of 152 (77-75).
