Men's Golf Takes Home Fourth-Place Finish at Beau Chene Classic
02/26/2003 MANDEVILLE, La. -- The East Carolina men's golf team brought home a fourth-place finish from the Beau Chene Golf Classic after finishing the three-round tournament with a combined score of 857, four strokes off the leader, Southern Miss. The tournament, which was played at the par-72, 6,725-yard Beau Chene Country Club, was the first event of the spring season for the East Carolina men.
Jonathan Hill was the top individual finisher for ECU. He completed the tournament in a tie for second place, along with Colorado State's Nolan Martin.. Both men had a combined score of 206. Hill shot 70 and 66 in the first two rounds of the event, and finished the tournament with a third round score of 70. With a 10th place finish, Jason Harris had the second best individual score for the Pirates. He completed the event with a final score of 212 (71-70-71), shooting under par in all three rounds. "We had a chance to win the tournament today," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams, "and obviously we are a bit disappointed with the fourth place finish. But, then again, we were only four shots out of first place. We competed really well against a highly competitive field, and finished ahead of Louisville, Mississippi, and Coastal Carolina. So, we are taking home some positives from this tournament as well. We just need to give Jonathan (Hill) and Jason (Harris) a little more help. Both of those guys played really solid for us this week." The Pirates next tournament will be the Coastal Carolina Intercollegiate at TPC of Myrtle Beach. The event will take place in Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 10-11.
