03/08/2004 CONWAY, S.C. -- The General Jim Hackler Invitational, presented by IMIC Hotels.com and hosted by Coastal Carolina University, was suspended during the second round of play, due to darkness, Mar. 8. The tournament, held at the par-72, 6,950-yard course at the TPC of Myrtle Beach, will resume at 9 a.m., Tue., Mar. 9, with the completion of the second round and the entire third round. Nationally ranked Pepperdine (No. 31) leads the field of 19 teams at 292, with No. 18 Wake Forest trailing in second by five shots. The Pirates (39-34-3) sit 16 shots back from first place, after a first round 308, and are just two shots behind nationally ranked South Carolina. Wake Forest's Bill Haas, son of PGA Tour veteran Jay Haas and the top-ranked player in the nation according to GolfWeek, is tied for the lead with Pepperdine's Michael Putnam and Virginia's Kevin O'Connell at two-under 70. Five players are tied for fourth at 71. Calle Andren leads the Pirates on the individual side of the tournament after posting an 18-hole 76, and currently sits in a tie for 32nd. Philip Reale, II and Jeff Crowe are just one stroke behind Andren after firing a five over-par 77. ECU is one of 19 teams participating in this year's tournament along with: Pepperdine, Wake Forest, Virginia, East Tennessee State, Virginia Tech, UCF, Arkansas, Furman, Louisville, Kansas State, South Alabama, UT-Arlington, South Carolina, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Michigan, Long Beach State, and Coastal Carolina B. "I thought we competed well today," said ECU golf coach Kevin Williams. "The conditions were extremely tough with heavy winds. We are just two strokes behind nationally ranked South Carolina, an with a solid second and third round on Tuesday, we will have the chance to beat some quality golf teams."
