Men's Golf Finished 17th At Furman Intercollegiate
03/28/2004 GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The East Carolina men's golf team posted a final round 314 to finish 17th at the Furman Intercollegiate. The tournament was being played at the 6,800-yard, par 72 Furman Golf Course. The Pirates (46-74-5) were unable to get going in the final round and struggled once again around the greens. ECU (307-307-314=928) finished two strokes ahead of instate foe Western Carolina and 14 ahead of Appalachian State. Host school Furman (286-292-305=883) went coast to coast leading the tournament all three days and snapped three-time defending champion Virginia Tech's (885) winning streak. Michigan (894) finished in third, while Coastal Carolina (895) and Wofford College (898) rounded out the top five. The Pirates were one of 19 teams participating in this year's tournament along with: Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Elon, Furman, Marshall, Michigan, Northwestern, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Rhode Island, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Virginia Tech, Winthrop, and Wofford. Matt Davidson (217) of Furman defeated teammate Rob Langley (217) in a playoff to capture the individual title. Wofford's Adam Dox finished one stroke behind Langley for third, while Alcaro Velasco (Coastal) and Scott Wise (Va. Tech) finished in a tie for fifth, 219. Senior's Jason Harris and Jeff Crowe finished tied for 54th with a 54-hole total 230 to led the Pirates. ECU will be back in action on April 2-3 when they host the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate at the Bradford Creek Golf Course in Greenville, N.C.
