Men's Golf Tied For Lead After First Round
04/02/2004 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina University men's golf team posted two-under par 286 to take a share of first place at the ninth annual Bradford Creek Intercollegiate golf tournament after first round action. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 7,151-yard Bradford Creek Golf Course in Greenville, N.C. ECU (46-74-5) is tied with Campbell University and Gardner-Webb in the team portion of the tournament, while instate foe and three-time defending champion UNC Wilmington (288) is two strokes back in fourth place. Coastal Carolina posted an opening round 289 and is in fifth place. The Pirates are one of 21 schools participating in this year's event along with: American University, Appalachian State, Army, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, DePaul, Elon, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, Univ. of Long Island, Marquette, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Rhode Island, Richmond, Seton Hall, Tennessee State, and Virginia Commonwealth. ECU's Ryan Leveque is leading the individual race as he fired a five-under par 67 and has a one shot lead over UNC Wilmington's Marc-Andre Roy. Steve McDonald of Gardner-Webb and Rickard Allard of Campbell are tied for third with first round scores of 69. Fellow Pirate Jason Harris is tied for ninth after a first round 71 (34-37) and Jeff Crowe is tied for 17 with an even-par 72. Second round action is currently underway with the third round play slated to begin Saturday morning at 7:50 a.m. with a shotgun start. Pirate fans can view each rounds results on www.ECUpirates.com.
