04/05/2003

ATHENS, Ga. – East Carolina University's women's golf team slipped five spots to eighth place after shooting a second round score of 303 on Saturday at the 31st annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, held at the University of Georgia's Golf Club.

The Pirates (298-303=601) are 13 strokes behind the leaders, University of Florida (295-293=588) and Duke University (295-2936=588), which are 12 strokes over par.

"We are competing very hard," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "I think we are in a real good position to pick up some really huge wins this weekend and help us reach our goal of going to the NCAA tournament."

The Lady Pirates have a pair of golfers currently sitting in the top 20 with Ashley Leonard (67-81=148) and Adrienne Millican (73-75=148) tied for 17th place.

Fellow Pirates Jessica Krasny (78-75=153) shot a 3-over par 75 while Heidi Helliesen (81-72=153) shot even par for the second round.

Final round action will resume tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
