ECU's Harris Leads After First Round of Wofford Invitational
04/12/2003 SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- East Carolina's Jason Harris is currently in first place
after round one of the Wofford Invitational. The tournament is being held at
the par-72, 6,842-yard Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.
Harris shot a first round 68 (33-35) to take a one-stroke lead over Tim Kane of Maryland who shot a 69 (36-33). Fellow Pirate Jonathan Hill currently sits in third place after posting a 2-under 70 (33-37). "I am extremely pleased with the way our team played today under the tough conditions," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "Jason and Jonathan carried us today like they have been doing all year." The Pirates are tied for first place with Central Florida after the first round, both shooting even par at 288. Maryland University, the 2002 Wofford champions, and UNC Wilmington are tied for third after shooting a 3-over par 291. Former ECU football player Kevin Miller provided a spark for the Pirates on Friday after posting a 2-over par 74 (38-36) in his first collegiate tournament in four years and his second career collegiate start. Miller currently sits in a tie for 15th place. Final round action resumes Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
