Pirate Golfers Earn All-Conference Honors

IRVING, Texas --- East Carolina sophomores David Watkins and Harold Varner were each named All-Conference USA as voted upon by the league's 11 head coaches. Watkins earned first-team accolades and Varner received second-team recognition.
Watkins was named Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week three times during the season including twice following a tournament victory. He earned individual medalist honors at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate and the River Landing Intercollegiate. Watkins posted five top 20 finishes during 11 tournaments played, including three top 10 finishes.
He is the third ECU golfer to earn first-team All-Conference USA honors and first since Jonathan Hill in 2003.
Varner registered the team's lowest scoring average of the year at 74.3 strokes per round. He posted seven top 20 finishes and three top 10s in 11 tournaments played. His best finish of the year was third-place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. Varner posted 11 rounds of par or better, including eight rounds under-par. His five-under 65 during the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate was the lowest round by any Pirate golfer during the year.
